WhatsApp is leaving behind, for good, a list of devices running very outdated operating systems. And the reason isn’t Meta being difficult — it’s security.
Like any modern app, WhatsApp needs security features that only exist in newer versions of Android and iOS. After the cutoff date, the app simply stops sending and receiving messages, joining groups or making calls on that device — even if the phone still turns on and works fine for other things. The only real solution is moving to a newer phone that still receives security updates.

- Samsung promises up to 7 years of updates on its flagships since the Galaxy S24, and several recent Galaxy A models also have long support windows.
